Arata Hoshino is a college student who could be the poster boy for "inertia." By chance, Arata gets his hands on a brand new type of smartphone made by the Chronos Corporation. The cell phone includes a diary application (Future Diary) that details ever-changing future events. At first, he takes advantage of the power of knowing what's going to happen in advance, but one day, the Future Diary displays the message, "Arata Hoshino dies."
