Getting to see Afeni Shakur get her story told and how the seeds of her labor was instilled in Tupac was amazing to see. Allen Hughes spars no time to get into these figures intertwining Afeni and Tupacs lives as two of the most inspirational figures of Black history. From the great interviews and found footage they tell a compelling story of a misunderstood Tupac and his life from a child prodigy to raps greatest figure. His story wouldn’t be without Afeni and her work in the Black Panther party and her diligence as a mother who persevered through the worst. A great documentary series one of the best I’ve seen and handled with care and love.
“When something burns really hot, it’s gone.”
A fascinating deep-dive into an artist that I love who lived an epic, short life that will always be remembered, and we’re talking about him today because of his legendary mother.
