Over the Garden Wall is potentially the greatest series Cartoon Network has ever produced. With only 10 episodes, Over the Garden Wall is able to present a fully realized world with layered characters, complex themes and a completely unique atmosphere. You know how the original Charlie Brown specials have cemented themselves as essential Holiday viewing and has aged like fine wine? Over the Garden Wall is similar in that regard. In twenty years, families will be gathering together on thanksgiving and/or Halloween and watching this every year. It’s cozy, magical and timeless.

~”ain’t that just the way.”~ how is this so good?! second watch through and I have such a deep respect for the comedic non-sequiturs. I feel like that takes a lot of boldness as a writer to pull off, to have confidence in one’s own weirdness, and there’s no shortage of that here. Greg is up there for me with Lilo and Mooney among my favorite kid characters of the screen. and it goes without saying, but the autumnal vibes are off the charts 🍂 have I mentioned the MUSIC? the beauty? the whole thing, a masterpiece, I tell you. a third watch is certainly in my future before long!
