a fucking ride of a season. animal kingdom season 2 is such an improvement on the first, the heists, drama within the family, & stakes are a lot higher than the first. there’s simply a lot more of a plot here. at times i’m super fucking impressed by the editing & one-takes during the robberies & heists, the intensity is through the roof. all the characters developed so much within this second season, no character felt like they were left out of the storyline, & the show definitely doesn’t feel like it’s at it’s full potential. baz pissed me off a bit this szn, but the real human migraine was nicky… both her characters are severely hated in the bear & animal kingdom lol… she’s just so out of her depth it’s funny. i do think i can comfortably say by the end of szn 2 that this show might’ve been better off if pope was the main character instead of j - his backstory & character feels way more protagonist-like & pope is just amazingly acted. doesn’t take away from j’s development this szn, but still gotta remember he’s a senior in high school, long way to go… overall very close to a 4.5 - this is just a lot of fun, with a lot of crazy & unpredictable people you can be empathetic with & hope they live till the end of the show.

animal kingdom szn 4 is definitely the show at its best. you can so easily compare this to sons szn 4. i loved what they did with the flashbacks & smurf’s character, the young smurf casting was great & super fitting to the mannerisms & psychotic relentlessness smurf carries. 4x12 is top 1 or 2 of the show & i think it’s gonna be hard to top it. the one thing they could handle better this szn that could’ve it made it a 4.5 is how they handled the mia plot, & the trujillos in general. there’s still two more seasons for that but i do think they should’ve been expanded way more this szn. pete is made to be less important than he actually is which is annoying since he’s a very hardened gangster that works with the cody’s. eh it seemed like mia had something for j but then that random boyfriend fresh outta jail comes into the show in the last ep of the szn 3 finale & they just turn her character entirely. she could be utilized way differently in this show. i don’t know she super cute & definitely such an interesting character. the actress does a damn good job playing an unhinged yet calm hood girl. she was actually a cam girl before acting so she came a long way lol i also do think they handle the cop & law side of things pretty inconsistently, they don’t get enough screentime & they’re presented to be way more important than they really are. kinda just pointless to the story & doesn’t serve much to the plot. j is definitely at his best this szn, & he is way more hardened & understanding of this world, i think this is the szn that tells the viewer j is in this life forever. this is a real turning-point to the show & the characters are completely different people at this point. not one of the best season 4s ever, (i can see most giving this a 4.5) but still extremely solid television with high peaks & consistent heists & drama within a crime family.

a good introductory first szn to this carbon copy of sons of anarchy. this first szn is heavily internal conflict related, & deals solely with problems within the cody family. after the show literally starts with a frame of j with his mom dead overdosed, he’s taken in by his grandma & meets all his uncles, & with the viewer thrown right into a literal animal kingdom. every one of the main characters is a bit batshit crazy besides j & baz. man but who carries this first szn on her back was smurf, played brilliantly by ellen barkin, who is kinda gilf hot just like gemma from sons, they are insanely similar characters & anyone who watches this definitely got the feeling right away. the main conflict this szn was the ongoing rats near the family. barely any other outside conflicts with other families yet, but i loved how this first szn really just dealt with family & nothing else. by the beginning of the szn joshua is comfortable with this family but by the end he is questioning everything. the episodes & story were nothing crazy but 1x9 & 1x10 definitely was a glance at what this show can do in future seasons.
